A Strawberry Moment

If, by chance or on purpose, you need to spend the night near the Miami International Airport, I recommend the following. First, flag-down a free shuttle to the Runway Inn. The room I had for $55 + taxes was a good size, clean and the in-room air-conditioning was hard-working. No ID required, if you pay cash. There’s free Wifi in the lobby, if you need to let someone know that you missed your flight. The shower was hot, there were plenty of clean towels, and the bed was comfortable. After a quick shower and a change of clothes, head to the nearby Patio Tipico. It is only a few feet way and it specializes in Honduran food. The food is delicious and huge–I had the Honduran chicken–the beer is cheap and cold, the waitresses lovely, and the ambience great. The jukebox plays a lot of Eagles. Order a beer and some food. Order another beer when the food arrives and eat a lot of the spicy onions that come in a jar along side the tabasco sauce. A third beer is optional but highly recommended. Watch the Miami Heat beat Golden State. Flirting with the waitresses is also optional but thinking about the possibility of it will be inevitable. Practice your Spanish before you go.
